Apple’s Secret Plan - The End of Microsoft and Traditional Computing
Windows is dead in 5 years. Now that I have your attention, here’s why.
For the first time in history there is an operating system that is in a position to slay the mighty Titan that Windows is. An operating system of unparalleled simplicity and ease of use combined with an innovative user experience that infects the public mindshare at an increasingly fast rate. I’m talking of course about iPhone OS.
iPhone OS is designed with one purpose alone, to make everyday people want to use it and then not feel stupid when they do. Microsoft has long been a company that caters to the business world first, and everyday people a distant second. They have started to change this attitude of late but it’s too little too late. The biggest chunk of the proverbial pie is being eaten up by iPhone, iPod Touch and soon the iPad.
There’s an app for that. A phrase that has infested the public psyche like a cancer in recent years. Has any developer in the past year come out and said how excited they are to be making a Windows program? Nope, they’ve been far too busy making apps for every company in America. This alone shows the trend which spells Microsoft’s doom; the silent but steady drift of the market towards simple, usable experiences that can be digested in a single use and discarded for the next shiny app.
Apple has instituted a software revolution without firing a single shot. The world is rapidly being filled up with iPhone OS devices. The number will increase exponentially until everyone wants that experience on all of their computers. And that’s when OS X 10.7 or 10.8 will be unveiled, a desktop OS almost exactly the same as iPhone OS.
